Day Hike - Bridal Veil Falls & Lake Serene

We'll start our journey to Bridal Veil Falls, and then continue on to Lake Serene. We will eat at "Lunch Rock," where we'll jump down into the alpine water and have a swim. The stunning lake lies in a basin surrounded by the towering snow-capped peaks of Mount Index.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,525 ft

We will meet at the trailhead at 8:30 am.

Carpools meet at the following locations:

  • From the Olympia area:  Haggen's Parking Lot at 6:45 am
  • From the Tacoma area:  Park and Ride on 6th and Jackson (near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge) at 7:00 am

I will be sending out an email to the roster closer to the date of the hike.  If you don't respond, I'll assume you're going to the trailhead on your own, but please look for the email and reply so I know you will attend.

Please email the roster to coordinate carpooling ahead of time.  I'll probably be at the P&R near the bridge.

Be sure that you have transportation to a park and ride or directly to the trailhead before registering.

Lake Serene is rated as a strenuous hike.  The lake itself is absolutely beautiful, and well worth the effort to reach it.  As a leader, I strive to make tough excursions realistic and attainable.  I am as encouraging as reasonably possible.

If you are new and unsure, or just hike a bit more slowly, you'll be fine.  If you like to charge on ahead and race up the switchbacks, please do not sign up.

The rules are very simple - we stay safe and we stay together.  There's someone leading and sweeping at all times.   We stop and wait at crossings, and everyone remains visible.  The goal is to hike at a leisurely, organized and steady pace while enjoying the day together as a group.

As mentioned earlier, we'll have an opportunity to jump into the lake.  Bring clothing you can wear in the water, including water shoes / sandals so you don't slip, and a small towel.  Also bring a plastic bag to pack your wet stuff out, and a jacket in case you feel cold after drying off.
