This should be a gentle three miles in and three miles out overnight at Lower Lena Lake. There will be an option to continue hiking to Upper Lena Lake on Saturday. Since this is a popular destination, and it is the weekend, we will need to get an early start on Saturday September 9 to get tent space at Lower Lena. Lower Lena is outside of NP boundary, so no hard requirement on bear canister. Please store food in either bear canister or Ursack.
This will be my first time leading a backpack trip with the Mountaineers. I have experienced the challenges and rewards of backpacking and want to share my passion for the outdoors! My goal will be for everyone to enjoy their experience and each other's company, as well as to gain confidence backpacking in general.
The only special consideration would be to expect cooler fall weather-to plan accordingly with layering for warmth and possible precipitation.
