Backpack - Excelsior Peak via Damfino Lakes

A slow-to-moderate pace backpack to a ridge with fantastic views and flowers. Slower paced for those out of shape (leader) who will also will be weighted down with tripod and camera gear. May need to descend to creek for camp water unless we find a snow patch. Bring mosquito gear or spray. Can hike out High Divide trail or lounge in camp in the afternoon.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 6.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 5,375 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 mph

Call leader for meeting information - if desired, those willing can meet at a local park and ride to arrange carpooling.  For those driving alone, meet at Glacier R.S. to combine cars to get to actual trailhead - road was repaired last year so is expected to be in pretty good shape, though narrow.

We will start off hiking as a loose group; once past the first junction there will be a little more flexibility although I expect whomever is in the front and rear of the group to be within ear shot of another backpacker.  I'm pretty easy going as to expectations so if you want to lounge in camp or want to hike the High Divide, you have the choice.
