Backcountry Trail Run - Hoh River

Single day backcountry trail run up the Hoh River Trail to the Blue Glacier and back. Long distance, but modest vert on the iconic non-technical approach to Mt Olympus.

  • Advanced Ultra 2
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 37.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,700 ft
  • Pace: Average 4 mph

Meet at the Hoh River Trailhead in Olympic National Park at 6:15 am for a gear check and pre-brief, aiming to start running by 6:30am on Saturday, August 24th.

Leader will have a nearby campsite reserved for Friday and Saturday nights for anyone who wants to arrive the night before (highly recommended given the early start).

Registration opens Mon, Jan 1st at 8am PT.

This is a very challenging ultra-distance day through-run: 37 miles roundtrip with modest vert (3,700 ft). (Description of the route from WTA.) You should have experience with ultra distance backcountry running (I will request a Strava track if we've never run together before, or a reference from a Backcountry Trail Running leader.) We will stay as a group, targeting an average of 3-4 miles per hour (aiming for about a 10-11 hour day start-finish run time).
