Alpine Scramble - Tokaloo Rock

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Tokaloo Rock

A gorgeous scramble through the alpine country on the west side of Mount Rainier, with stunning flowers and views of the Sunset Amphitheater. Quite the workout at 22 miles and 6100’ of elevation gain.

  • Technical 3, Strenuous 5
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 20.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 6,000 ft

Arranged via email, departing from Dry Creek at ~7am.

We will NOT be using bicycles on the West Side Road.  Our feet (plus the Round Pass connector trail) will see us departing the Wonderland Trail at ~6000’ on our way to Andrew and Tokaloo Rock.  On descent we will likely take a short detour to St Andrews Lake (to pump water, unless tarn water remains at higher elevations) before resuming our descent (southbound) on the Wonderland Trail.  This trip will be a slightly shorter version of this trip and will NOT visit Aurora Peak.  We’ll save a visit to Aurora Peak for an overnighter this winter (a 3 day version of this trip).  Photos from past trips to Tokaloo Rock can be seen here.
