Foundations of Instruction Track for the "Foundations of Leadership & Instruction (in-person)"

Join us December 3, 2022, from 8am-5:15pm at The Mountaineers' Seattle Program Center: 7700 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle, WA 98115. 

Registration includes coffee and tea service and a catered social hour. 

BAckground

Designed for our current and future volunteer instructors, with a goal of fostering diverse and passionate connections throughout The Mountaineers. This course is for current or aspiring volunteers who are proficient in one or more one or more outdoor activities, but are interested in learning more about instructing in the outdoors.

The Foundations of Instruction track is intended to share the foundational principles of leadership that we think are most important for our volunteers. This course provides a practical overview of instruction concepts and definitions with real-life applications. 

At the end of this track, you will be able to understand how to mitigate risks, understand the importance of setting clear learning outcomes, foster an inclusive environment for your trip, and more. If you don't yet have experience with outdoor instruction, this track is a great place to start! 

COURSE COMPLETION

The Foundations of Instruction track comprises its own individual pathway, outlined below. The individual courses in the pathway are scheduled as 75 minute sessions, please see schedule in the next "Schedule" section below. 

Foundations of Leadership Course Pathway

  • Completion of the Foundations of Risk Management Track
  • Completion of the Foundations of Equity & Inclusion Track
  • Completion of the Foundations of Education & Instruction Part 1 and 2
  • Passing score for the online Foundation of Instruction Final Quiz

Foundations of Leadership & Instruction (in-person) culminates in either the online "Foundations of Leadership Final Quiz" or "Foundations of Instruction Final Quiz". Attendees registered for the Foundations of Instruction track will be emailed the enrollment link to complete "Foundations of Instruction Final Quiz" through the online platform, Coassemble.

Once the Foundations of Instruction Final Quiz is passed, the Foundations of Instruction badge or will be awarded. Please note that a Coassemble account will be required to complete the quizzes.
