Cutthroat Lake & Pass

A moderately strenuous 11-mile round trip hike with 2,300 feet of elevation gain. The trail offers views of Silver Star Mountain and Cutthroat Peak from the pass which intersects the Pacific Crest Trail. At 1.8 miles, a 0.25-mile side-trail leads to Cutthroat Lake.

getting there

Drive SR-20 to 4 miles east of Washington Pass, turn west onto Forest Road 400, and continue 1 mile to the Cutthroat Lake Trailhead (4,500 ft).

Hike 1.8 miles with 500 feet of elevation gain to Cutthroat Lake—a 0.25-mile side trail leads to the lake. Continue a more strenuous 3.7 miles with 1,800 feet of elevation gain to Cutthroat Pass (6,800 ft) and the intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).
