Trip Report

Day Hike - Mount Zion

A fun late winter hike with Olympia CHS students on a spring day in May!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • We went via the Deadfall Trail which is in very good condition. Just a couple of skinny trees to go under or over.

A very enjoyable CHS2 hike to Mt. Zion yesterday. The Deadfall Trail is pretty steep and a great conditioner, a nice alternative to the usual route, and did 7 miles rt and 2,700' gain. We encountered six or more inches for about a mile all the way to the top, even got snow-bombed!

Very limited parking at the trailhead, no other cars. The access roads are fine, no high clearance is needed. Saw only two other hikers with their dogs near the summit, but they had started at a different trailhead. No one else the whole day. We enjoyed a sunny lunch on top and got back to the cars before any rain.
