Hobuck Beach & Neah Bay

Trip

Sea Kayak - Shi Shi Beach

This paddle is part of the Surf Zone and Beyond activity week. This is a 12 nm SKV paddle to lovely Shi Shi Beach, if conditions are favorable. This is only for experienced open coastal paddlers!

  • Sea Kayak V
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.0
  • Maximum Wind: 15 kts
  • Maximum Waves: 4 ft
  • Pace: 3.0 kts

We will MEET at Hobuck Beach at 8:00 am and LAUNCH at 9:00 am.

Everyone that signs up for this paddle or clinic needs to ALSO sign up for the June 10 - 14 Sea Kayak -- Hobuck (ie, Surf Zone and Beyond) activity so we have a head count of everyone who's coming (even if you are just coming for part of it) and everyone must bring their ID and proof of vaccination to be admitted to the Makah Reservation.

Shi Shi Beach is a "bucket list" destination for kayakers and we are hoping that conditions will pan out for us to go there as planned.  This will involve going in and out of surf  three times plus a fairly long stretch of open coastline.  But if we can make it, the payoff is spectacular!  This is one of the premier beaches in Washington state.

We will stop for a break on the south end of Makah Bay, then on to Shi Shi.  We'll have an early lunch break on Shi Shi beach and we may have a little time to explore the nearby rock stacks (condition dependent.)

All participants must be confident going in and out of surf, and have strong rescue skills.

Dry suit, helmet and gloves required.

If the swell/surf is too high,  we will hope to do a different paddle in a more protected area.
