Trip Report

Day Hike - Mildred Point

Beautiful fun forested hike on a lightly used trail.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The Van Trump Park trail along Rampart Ridge is in excellent condition. Three or four down trees were easy to pass. The switchbacks on the upper stretch are somewhat overgrown and need maintenance, but otherwise presented no problems. The use paths up to the Point are eroding, so several deep steps on loose rooty sand are required. In places it's like climbing a beach!

We saw only a handful of other hikers, and most of them had taken the Comet Falls route. We had the trail along Rampart Ridge mostly all to ourselves! But the fog was thick all day, so our hoped for mountain views didn't pan out. There were a few blue berries and huckleberries, but apparently they weren't in full force yet, and not many wildflowers. None of the above mattered much though, because we simply enjoyed each others company and appreciated a day out in the freedom of the hills!
