Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Hex Mountain Loop

It was fun doing this as a loop. Probably takes a little longer, but certainly more interesting.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • A Sno-Park Pass is supposedly needed to park at the trailhead, but we parked in a pullout off the road and did not see any sign saying one was needed there.  Our route going clockwise.52570663828_963286a9d0_o.jpg

Our group of 9 started off at about 9:15am.  We left the ice axes and helmets behind.   Although most wore Microspikes, it was fine without them.  Once starting up the ridge it got a little breezy occasionally and the snow was firm enough to continue without snowshoes.52569896421_8c31bf256c_o.jpg

Looking back towards Cle Elum Lake where the clouds are starting to disperse.  52570172379_c2fd5e92c9_o.jpg

Although we put on snowshoes right before reaching the summit (because we had stopped below to eat lunch in order to avoid being blasted by gusts on the summit,) we could easily have made it without them.  The last few steps before reaching the summit.52569656977_067a5d815e_o.jpgA view from the summit looking NE.52570566650_d7e946c668_o.jpg
