Michael Versteeg

Michael Versteeg is a southwestern native that has spent most of his life exploring the four corners region. His life as an outdoor athlete has allowed him to travel ceaselessly around the world, setting records on both far away mountains, and local routes including his 2016 fastest known time of The Arizona Trail.

A former chemistry professor and wildlife geneticist, Versteeg has turned his passion for the natural world towards public land awareness and protecting the wild places he calls home. In 2017 he photographed the first post-monument designation guidebook to Bears Ears National Monument. He currently bases out of the cabin he built on the backside of Granite Mountain in central Arizona.
