Seattle Nomads Climbing - Smith Rock

Join us for a weekend of camping, climbing and hiking at Smith Rock State Park!

No Later than 4:00 PM: Arrive at Skull Hollow Campground. Set up camp, explore on own if arrive early.  Recommend leaving Seattle no later than 10:30am.  Skull Hollow | Link Location

The Nomads will spend the weekend climbing, hiking (up to 4 miles), and camping in/near Smith Rock State Park in central Oregon!

We will head down on Friday and camp at Skull Hollow campground (7.5 miles from Smith Rock), spend all day Saturday rock climbing (expect to hike up to 45 minutes to climbing routes), and hike on Sunday morning (up to 5 miles) on before heading back to Seattle. May be able to have a pod climb Sunday morning if preferred but will be determined after roster finalized based on group interest.

Guests: If spots are still available two weeks prior to the trip, email trip leader to request that a friend or sibling be able to join.

CLIMBING GEAR CHECKOUT:

  • March 23: 2:30–5:45pm
  • March 29: 9am–12pm

CLIMBING GEAR RETURN:

  • April 4: 10am–2pm (Katy)
  • April 7: 6–8pm (Carl)

CLOTHES: CHECK THE WEATHER

  • Clothes for adventuring during the day (layers)
    • Clothes for at camp in the evening (warmer because it’ll cool down in the evening)
  • Sun Protection: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, sun shirt, etc.
  • Day pack
  • Hiking Boots
  • Camp Shoes (optional) 

CLIMBING GEAR (CAN BORROW):

  • Climbing shoes
  • Harness
  • Helmet
  • Belay device
  • Shoes for hiking to the crag

CAMPING ITEMS:

  • Personal mess kit including: plate/bowl, utensils, cup
  • Camp chair
  • Tent (can be borrowed from the Mountaineers with advance notice)
  • Sleeping bag/pad (can be borrowed from the Mountaineers with advance notice)
  • Pillow (we’re car camping; might as well be comfy!)
  • Toiletries (restrooms available at campsite)
  • Headlamp/flashlight with extra batteries
  • Face mask(s)
  • Hand Sanitizer

FOOD FOR YOURSELF: 

    • Breakfast & Dinner: Group meals
    • Lunches: Friday (on the road); Saturday and Sunday at activity location
    • Snacks: enough for both Saturday and Sunday
  • Water: 2 liters per person per day minimum
