A drytooling session in the Mountaineers basement to introduce MAC students to the art of mixed, water ice, and alpine ice climbing. This is an advanced trip with prerequisites. See leader's notes for details.

Series overview

2nd session, similar content to 1st.. We'll meet, talk about goals and scope for the series, get acquainted with the gear and get into the basics of moving with crampons and tools. 

This is an advanced trip. Prerequisites:

  • Confidence and ample experience leading at least 5.9 sport.
  • Experience glacier climbing and familiarity with ice axe use, as a base for learning to use ice tools
  • Ability to handle poor conditions - adequate layers & experience to stay warm in freezing/wet weather

indoor session - Mountaineering boots compatible with fully automatic crampons and ice tools. Helmet, eye pro. Climbing shoes just in case.
