PREREQUISITES
- Must be a Junior or Senior (or have demonstrated a high level of leadership) in at least your 2nd year in MAC (no exceptions)
- Must have demonstrated a high level of technical competence. Examples:
- Ability to proficiently teach belay escape & crevasse rescue
- Ability to teach lead climbing & understanding of lead climbing concepts
- Ability to build trad anchors proficiently
- Must be able to swim 25 yards without buoyancy
- Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate
Topics: Personal movement & Rigging
- Review personal movement
- PAR exercise ascend, knot pass, convert, descend, knot pass
- Canyon anchors
- Releasable Systems
- Releasing and re-setting a releasable system
- Fixed systems
- Cleaning the anchor, rappelling, and retrieving the rope
- Sequencing party members
- Rigging a retrievable hand line
- Retrieving a hand line from a rappel anchor
- Guided Rappel

Canyoneering hardware/harnesses available to borrow from The Mountaineers Canyoneering committee.
Students will need to provide:
- Helmet
- Pea-less whistle (Fox 40 is recommended – they’re cheap)
- Alpine draw plus an additional single runner
