PREREQUISITES

  • Must be a Junior or Senior (or have demonstrated a high level of leadership) in at least your 2nd year in MAC (no exceptions)
  • Must have demonstrated a high level of technical competence. Examples:
    • Ability to proficiently teach belay escape & crevasse rescue 
    • Ability to teach lead climbing & understanding of lead climbing concepts
    • Ability to build trad anchors proficiently
  • Must be able to swim 25 yards without buoyancy
  • Current Wilderness First Aid Certificate

  • Frog ascending system
  • Transition from ascent to descent
  • Transition from descent to ascent
  • Pass a knot on ascent and descent
  • Go hands free and isolate a core shot while on rappel

Canyoneering hardware/harnesses available to borrow from The Mountaineers Canyoneering committee. 

Students will need to provide: 

  • Helmet
  • Pea-less whistle (Fox 40 is recommended – they’re cheap)
  • Alpine draw plus an additional single runner
