CHS 2 Hike - Mount Teneriffe

Join us in climbing North Bend’s Mount Teneriffe! Hike through second- and third-growth forest, pass a lovely waterfall, and enjoy a summit slightly less-frequently visited than the nearby Mount Si.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 13.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,800 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

Two Options to meet the group

1) Meet at the Tibbett's park & ride  - and carpool to the TH

If people would like to carpool, we will meet at the Tibbett’s Park & Ride @ 6:50, leave for the Mount Teneriffe trailhead @ 7:00, arriving @ 7:30. We hope to start hiking around 7:45.

2) Meet at the Mount Teneriffe parking lot/TH

If you choose to drive directly to the TH, we will see you at the Mount Terriffe parking lot  at 7:30. You will need a Discover pass to park in the parking lot.

Join us in climbing North Bend’s Mount Teneriffe! The elevation is a little more than the July hikes call for (3800 ft vs 2500-3500 ft).

WTA notes the highest point is at 4585 ft.   The latest trip reports (6/18-6/19) note snow starting at 4000 ft.  We’re hoping for some snow melt over the next couple of weeks.  Although, we will turn around before the summit if trail conditions are not safe.  Poles and traction devices are highly recommended. Bring them if you have them.

The parking lot at the Mount Teneriffe Trailhead is open 7 – 5 and is gated and locked outside of these hours.

We plan to stop for food at Rio Bravo in North Bend after the hike. https://www.riobravomex.com/home

This is a CHS 2 hike and will be led at an overall pace of 2.0-2.5 mph.  This is usually a fairly quiet trail especially after the  Teneriffe Falls junction.

Make sure to bring your rain jacket, your lunch and the rest of your 10 essentials.

Directions to the Tibbett’s Park & Ride

Take exit 15 (WA-900 W/17th Avenue NW) off I-90 eastbound. Take a right at the bottom of the ramp. Drive approximately ½ mile and turn left on Newport Way NW. Take the first right into the Tibbetts Valley Park & Ride. (Not the multi-level parking garage on your left.) Drive into the parking lot past the Skate park.

Directions to the Trailhead

From I-90, take exit 32 (436th Avenue SE). Turn left (north) over the freeway and drive 0.5 miles to SE North Bend Way. Turn left (west), and in 0.25 mile turn right (north) on SE Mount Si Road. In 2.9 miles (past the Little Si and Mount Si trailheads), you will reach a 70-car paved parking area on the left. A Discover Pass is required to park here. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.

Other info

On a clear day, it’s been reported that the views on Mount Teneriffe are far better than neighboring Mount Si and on a really good day Mount Baker, Glacier Peak and Mount Rainier along with hundreds of mountains in the Olympics and the Cascades are represented.

FYI:  The mountain takes its name from the island of Tenerife in Spain.
