Let’s meet at the Fryingpan Creek Trailhead, which is 2.9 miles past the White River Ranger station (Sunrise entrance) to the park, at 8:00 AM to stay ahead of the crowds and find parking. More specific details to follow via email.
This is one of the most spectacular day hikes in Mount Rainier National Park, with wildflower meadows, stunning views of Mount Rainier, and from the gap views of Opanapecosh Park and volcanic peaks to the south. Mountain goats are usually seen between Summerland and the gap. If the log bridge is in place above Summerland, rock hopping across the creek will not be required. One short section of snow is expected just before reaching the gap, so traction devices and poles are prudent safety items.
