This is a moderately difficult backpack trip and is for two nights. This trip is for students that are of good conditioning (been out hiking a lot) and want a bit of extra challenge. Participants need to be able to gain 2200' of elevation on the first day of the trip with a full-backpack. We will camp two nights at Five-mile Camp. On Saturday we will hike up and back to Ten-mile Camp with light day packs.
Itinerary:
Day 1 Trailhead (TH) to Five-mile Camp. 5 Miles, 2,167 " elevation gain
Day 2 "Day hike', Five-mile Camp to Ten-mile Camp RT, 10 miles, approx. 2000' gain (note Gaia App. states 3,462' of gain--this appears wildly high so I adjusted it down).
Day 3 Five-mile Camp back to TH, 5 miles, 1304' gain. Optional day hike at conclusion of Backpack to nearby Murhut Falls, 1.5' RT with 500' gain may be offered.
Covid-19: Students need to be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and email the leader a copy of their CDC card. Thanks
About Basic Backpacking Field Trips
The Basic Backpacking Field Trip is the final scheduled activity of the Basic Backpacking Course. For most students it will be their first overnight trip in the backcountry. Student backpacks are usually single-night trips along Easy or Moderate routes that do not present any unusual technical challenges.
