Beginning Backpacking Course - Seattle - 2016

Backpacking Course

Backpacking Course

This one-day course is for those who are interested in backpacking, but haven't tried it; or for those who've tried it a couple of times and are looking to improve their knowledge.

Learn how to select and properly pack your backpack, and learn about food/stoves and cooking, boots/socks and hiking without blisters (or how to treat them if you get them), tents/sleeping bags and how to be comfortable sleeping on the ground, leave no trace camping (and how to answer the call of nature without any facilities), clothing and layering, and much more.

We hope that this class will provide you with the information and skills necessary for you to camp overnight in the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest and beyond.  There are no backpacking trips as part of the class, but you are certainly welcome to sign up for Mountaineers backpacking trips with or without this class.

The class begins at 9am and finishes at 2:30pm.  There will be a break for lunch.  Students are encouraged to bring a lunch as there are no quick lunch places near the Mountaineers building.

If you have any questions, contact the Backpacking Committee chair Todd Mitchell at 206 219-9924 (before 9pm) or toddbackpack@gmail.com
