------------------------------------------------

The Alpine First Aid course  consists of two parts. To finish the course and receive credit, participants must complete both of the following:

AFA Wilderness First Aid  - 16 hour weekend course

AFA Scenarios -  a hands-on practical session

The course fulfills the first aid requirement for Mountaineers courses that have one.

Wilderness First Aid is taught by Remote Medical International (RMI) at the Mountaineers’ Program Center in Magnuson Park on various weekends throughout the year. The course includes an independent WFA certification that is good for 2 years. Your course fee covers the cost of this instruction.

Planned 2015 Seattle WFA dates: January 10-11, January 17 - 18, February 14-15, March 14-15, April 11-12, April 18-19, September 19-20, October 10-11. These will open for registration on a rolling basis with course capacity expanding as needed.

AFA Scenarios is a hands-on practical session at the Mountaineers’ Program Center to test your skills after completing the Wilderness First Aid course. Register for a scenario date that occurs after your WFA course. You may not do these out of order.

Planned 2015 Seattle Scenario dates: January 27, February 19, March 19, April 1, May 14, June 9. Additional Fall dates to be added later.

Cancellation policy: No refund is available after the Wilderness First Aid session is completed.

Re-certification: With completion of this course, the Wilderness First Aid certification is good for 2 years. Recertification does not apply to this course. Participants must retake complete Wilderness First Aid course to keep certification. The Mountaineers offers an additional 1 year grace period for First Aid credit where it is required for graduation of other Mountaineers courses.

Equivalency notes: Some requirements may be waived or equivalency granted to individuals who have current backcountry medical certifications or extensive experience in providing medical care in remote or austere environments. Contact the course leader if you meet these requirements. You will have to provide proof of your certification and/or experience and may still be required to complete the Scenarios portion of the class to receive credit. Urban and front-country medical training alone is not sufficient to meet this requirement, even with advanced education and experience.
