Field trip: Following Alpine Rock

Following Alpine Rock - Workshop - Core Instructional Content - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

Workshop #5: A full day at the Program Center spent doing a lot of rappeling (in a variety of setups.)

  • Sat, May 7, 2022
  • Seattle Climbing
  • Climbing
  • Adults
  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

This will be a single full day on Saturday, May 7th.  Students: Time will likely be 8am-5pm.  Instructors:  Arrive at 7:00am for setup.

We are sharing the space with the Canyoneering course.  They got their room reservations in first, and were gracious enough to share with us, so we'll work around them as politely as we can.

In this full-day workshop, we'll get experience with:

  • Rob's Three Rules for rappelling
  • extended rappel with autoblock
  • fireman's belay
  • leg wrap
  • getting over an edge when rap anchor is ground-level (Goodman C works well, or the buildings North Wall from that balcony)
  • non-extended rappel (make sure autoblock is on leg loop)
  • rappeling without a device:  3-locker rappel  (can extend, with autoblock)

We'll see what spaces end up being available to us.  Hopefully, we'll get to use a mix of the south wall, the Goodman C indoor wall, and the building's north wall from that balcony.
