Adventure Speaker Series. Marko Pavela: Adventures South of the Border

Olympia Mountaineers invites members and non members to join us on our eight evening socials on the first Wednesday of the month, September thru May (excluding November) The meetings are at the Friends Meeting House, 3201 Boston Harbor Rd. NE. 98506. Door opens at 5:30 pm, potluck dinner starts promptly at 6pm. Bring a dish to share, plate and flatware. Or grab a hot drink, check out our Mountaineer library, audiovisual presentation, or pick up membership, activities and class information. Branch announcements are at 6:45 and our outstanding Adventure Speaker Series starts promptly at 7pm.

Marko Pavela: Adventures south of the border.

Olympia Mountaineer Marko Pavela will share stories from recent adventures in Mexico.  In 2015 Pavela flew to Mexico alone, for a climb of Pico de Orizaba.  Pavela found himself back in Mexico in 2017, this time with friends.  Objectives included a descent of the Chorreadero, an underground river canyon/cave that descends 1000’ and requires multiple rappels, and jumps, to exit.  The party also spent 4 days packrafting the Rio La Venta, camping on the river’s sandy banks, navigating whitewater hazards, and taking in fantastic sites like the Arco del Tiempo.

Pavela aspires to inspire and will offer insights into planning self supported international adventures, and beginner packrafting and cayoneering as well.
