Wilderness Skills 2 - The Essentials of Backpacking

The essentials of backpacking class work and an overnight backpacking trip later in the summer.

Purpose: Intended students

  • those wanting more in-depth information and hands-on exercises in backpack including: building navigation skills; measuring and improving physical conditioning; avoiding and handling emergencies; food option; clothing and equipment for the long-haul (old school/cheap, classic, high-tech, and ultra-light); great places to go the permits to get there; electronics and other topics as requested.  
  • those wanting to go backpacking with a group of like minded travelers
  • those wanting to explore the high country, in the alpine environment by traveling off trail, above tree line, across snow slopes or rugged terrain where self-reliance and are required.
