Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Seven Lakes Basin & High Divide
Enjoy expansive views of the Seven Lakes Basin in a clockwise traverse of one of PNW's classic backpacking destinations. We’ll explore beautiful alpine meadows and lakes and take in the views along narrow ridge trails. Renee and Melinda's mentor group has priority signup until June 1 at 9am. Then spots are open to any qualified B3 student with leader permission (wrenlen@gmail.com) until August 10 at 9am.

Day 1 - 9 miles, 3100’ gain, 525’ loss. Meet at the Sol Duc trailhead, hike the to check out Sol Duc Falls. The first half of the trail travels through the river valley gaining minimal elevation. After the junction with the trail to Appleton Pass we'll head uphill to the Sol Duc Park group campsite.
Day 2 - 12 miles, 3800’ gain, -4400 loss. The big day. We’ll leave camp and head south to the Cat basin primitive trail. We’ll explore the views east towards Mount Olympus before making our way back to the High Divide Trail. As we follow the ridge, we’ll stop to check out the views from atop Bogachiel Peak. Continuing west we’ll take a quick side trip down a short but steep trail to explore the meadows at Lunch Lake if we have time and energy. Back on the trail we’ll stop for the night at Deer Lake group campsite where we can take a swim after the long day.
Day 3 - 8 miles, 1400’ gain, -3300’ loss. Today we’ll complete the loop making our way back down to the trailhead via the Mink Lake trail.
Bear canisters are required. Ursacks are not allowed.
The trip will be relocated to a different destination if wildfire smoke is impacting the area.
Participants will be asked to pay $17/person for the backcountry permit obtained by the trip leader.
