The American College of Surgeons' STOP THE BLEED® program has prepared over 2.6 million people worldwide on how to stop bleeding in a severely injured person.

In this STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out: (1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound; (2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet. These three techniques will empower you to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.

This seminar has two parts:

  • 25-minute interactive course intended to be completed first.

You will receive an e-mail with your quiz results to bring to the Skills-Only live session.

  • 2 1/2 hour Skills-Only live session: A formal presentation followed by hands-on practice of applying direct pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Small group instructors will be available to check your movements as you practice three different bleeding control actions.

This seminar is initially intended for activity leaders within The Mountaineers and will not be open to non-members. Non-leaders and non-members wishing to take a similar seminar can consult the official STOP THE BLEED® course listing at If an activity leader wishes to register and the respective leader badge is not listed, please e-mail Brad at with profile link. There are no badges awarded for taking this seminar.

Additional details will be e-mailed soon after registration closes on September 19. Also, the class size may be increased if the instructor is able to secure additional volunteers to help facilitate. In the meantime, please e-mail Brad with any questions at
