February Winter Conditioning Run: 6+ miles - Cougar Mountain: Terrace Trail Trailhead

Winter Trail Running Conditioning Course runs from 6+ miles. You will need to complete 2 course runs per month over Dec, Jan and Feb to graduate. *Note: activity starts at Cross Town Trail by Beit Tikvah Synagogue in Newcastle.*

Meet at 5PM at Cross Town Trail by Beit Tikvah Synagogue at 7935 136th Ave SE in Newcastle. Parking on street - no passes required. Following introductions, description of route and current trail conditions, plan to start running by 5:10PM. There are no public bathrooms at the trailhead or anywhere on the route.

We will follow a counter-clockwise loop for ~6 1/4 miles total distance with 1,510 ft elevation gain, through many Cougar trails. We will stop at the DeLeo Wall for a quick drink and snack, then continue on the DeLeo Wall trail to Indian, Red Town, Rainbow, Wildside and Marshall's Hill trails. We will look to do an avg pace of 3.5 mph: moderate hike uphill and 4.5-5.0 mph straighaway and downhill. Please bring headlamp since we will be starting in the dark!

  • Waterproof jacket, hat, buff, gloves, sunglasses; running-specific gaiters recommended
  • Warm mid-weight layer (e.g. down vest or wool long sleeve)
  • Trail running shoes
  • A small day pack suitable for trail running
  • Bring snacks and water
  • Trail running-adapted ten essentials
  • Headlamp with spare batteries
