This is an entry level course for any youth ages 15-24 who would like to learn how to safely experience the backcountry with a group. The focus will be on decision making; how to achieve group consensus in potentially high-risk terrain; what constitutes avalanche terrain; and formation of avalanches. No previous experience is required. We will travel safely in small groups outside of avalanche terrain to an area where we can safely observe avalanche terrain. All instructors will be credentialed NWAC personnel. Mode of travel will be snowshoes.
There will be 5 online classroom sessions and one field trip day starting in early February and continuing through mid March.
