Basic Climbing Course - Fundamentals Field Trip - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

Basic Climbing Course Fundamentals Field Trip where students will be tested on their ability to: 1) demonstrate knowledge and ability to tie sixteen knots and hitches used during climbing, 2) Prusik setup and technique, 3) Belaying techniques.

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)
  • Pace: 1 hour 15 minutes for each of the 3 abilities

The Mountaineers Program Center, Goodman A, B, and C.

Instructors will arrive at 7:00AM to help with field trip setup.

Students will arrive at 7:30AM and be prepared to start the field trip at 8:00AM.

This field trip will focus on demonstrating proficiency in knots, belaying, and crevasse self rescue (prusiking up a rope).  Each student will a 1, 2, or 3 rating for each skill they will be demonstrating.

Students will have with them all equipment listed in the "Fund" column shown on the Equipment Matrix on pages 19-20 of the 2021 BCC Handbook. 

Wearing a facial mask is mandatory during the entire duration of the field trip.
