Mountain Workshop Curriculum Volunteer Instructor

Activities and Responsibilities

We are looking for volunteers who have experience teaching and leading curriculum with folks, youth experience not required. You would take the lead teaching 10-12 youth for 30-60 minutes of instruction time (depending on the group).

  • Teach youth safe and responsible outdoor practice
  • Communicate with group leader, chaperones, and Mountaineers employees if any behavior issues arise
  • Take care of program supplies while you are in program

Support and Resources

We do not require our volunteers to manage a child or group’s behavior. If a behavior issue arises, we bring this to the attention of the group leader and the diffuse the situation! We provide you with the program supplies, adult support, and any training specific to that program. We give you a basic guideline to help you teach the skill, but if you have a way you like to teach that’s great!

Length of Service/Position

  • General Mountain Workshop programs last between 1-3 hours. During a typical Mountain Workshop, we rotate groups of 10 youth through 1 hour segments of programming.

Qualifications Sought

We are looking for folks who are dedicated to teach safe and responsible outdoor practices to groups of youth. Our Mountain Workshops are our partnership programs with other youth serving agencies. We expect that you will be inclusive, regardless of sex, race, and orientation to all of our youth, volunteers, and staff. We expect that you will care for our program supplies, and provide quality programming to our program partners! You do not need to be a master of a skill to be an amazing instructor! We will provide you with any information you need for a program.
