Remember the exhilaration you felt the first time you stepped foot on the summit of a peak, set up your tent under a canopy of trees, or paddled in open water?
Your experience not only shaped you, but also helped you gain an appreciation for the natural world and inspired a desire to protect the wild place that made your experience possible.
But if no one cares about the persistent issues and threats to our natural world, the wild places you cherish could be at risk of disappearing sooner than you think.
To head off these threats to our wild places, we’ll need younger people to participate in our collective action. Millennials – ranging in age from 18 to 34 – will soon account for one-third of American adults.
Young people will protect our wild places, but they need to be inspired first. That begins with a connection – between people and landscapes.
