Our Photography Committee is back for another round of  exciting ways for new photographers to get their feet wet, and wise hands to build on their existing skill set. With a wealth of options for activities, classes, and events, we have something here for everyone. 

Activities

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge | Jan 12
A winter walk at the refuge to see wildlife, waterfowl, bald eagles... and maybe even a great horned owl. This is a combination naturalist and photography field trip. Families are welcome!

Fir Island | Feb 10
A short hike to identify and photograph birds. This is a combination photography and naturalist field trip. Registration opens February 4.

Seattle Public Library Mobile Photography | Feb 16
Photography inside and outside the downtown Seattle Public library, appreciating its unique architecture. We will be using only our cellphones, no tripods or lighting kits. Registration opens February 1.

Cross-Country Ski at Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park | Mar 16-22
Hut-based Nordic skiing among the spectacular mountain scenery of Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park in the Canadian Rockies. Round trip heli-flight and lodging provided. This trip will provide great winter and night sky photo opportunities.

Leslie Gulch & Juniper Gulch Trail | May 17-19
Explore and photograph spectacular high desert scenery, wildlife, dramatic rock formations, and the night sky in Southeast Oregon's Owyhee Canyonlands. Registration opens March 10.

Day Hike in Moran State Park | Jun 23
Photograph four different waterfalls at the Moran State Park. More details to come.

Classes

Using Photoshop to Turn Photos Into Art | Jan 12
Use Adobe Photoshop to enhance your images or create a new piece of artwork. In this workshop, two instructors will show you different approaches and techniques.

Slideshow Workshop | Mar 9
Join us for a workshop on how to create your own fade/dissolve slideshow using a variety of software for both PC and Mac users. An optional critique night will be on March 19th.

Behind the Shot: Photographing Washington State Parks | Feb 4
For her Road Trip through the Lens presentation, Heidi has created themed road trips through several parks exploring Washington’s history, flora, fauna, geology, culinary specialties, and plaid-old pretty scenery. Along the way she’ll give you hints and tips to help guide you on your own photographic adventure.

Behind the Shot: The Art of Intentional Travel Photography | May 8
David Julian is a Seattle-based photographer, photo-illustrator, speaker, and educator. He divides his time between assignments, cultural travel workshops, and teaching. Registration opens March 15.

Photo scavenger hunt in and around the market. Registration opens April 1.

Tongue Point Tide Pools | May 19
Photograph sea life in the tide pools during low tide. Registration opens May 1.

Whistler Train Wreck Trail | Jul 13
A short hike to seven box cars remaining from a 1956 train wreck, painted with graffiti/art. Take photographs from the Whistler Peak to Peak Gondola later in the evening. Registration opens June 24.

Naches Peak Loop | Jul 26
Wildflower photography & a nature hike at a slow pace. Registration opens July 15.

Baker Lodge Weekend | Aug 9-11
Combination photography & naturalist weekend at the lodge. Stay tuned for more details.

Baker Lodge Fall Colors Weekend | Sep 27-29
Our annual photography trip to record the fall colors at the lodge. Details to come.
