Mountaineer of the Week: Priya Sinha

Each week we bring you a personal story from one of our members. For our member profile this week we talked to...

Name: Priya Sinha
Hometown: Born in India, Grew up in Albuquerque, NM
Member since: May 2022
Occupation: Lawyer/Engineer/Founder
Favorite Activities: I love to play outside. Swimming, biking, running, hiking, mountaineering. I'm in for almost anything that gets me sweaty and dirty.

I am interested in ultramarathoning and trail running. I was looking for a class to help me with compass reading. As I learned more about the programing available by The Mountaineers, I was excited to learn everything possible. This year, I am in the scrambling course. I would also like to learn climbing.

Why do you like getting outside with us?

I love the graciousness, kindness, and generosity of this community. I feel welcome wherever I show up. Full stop.

Each time I have signed up to learn a skill, it has been something that has been out of my comfort zone. My favorite memories are those moments when I finally feel like I have a base understanding of the skill and will not kill myself.

Who/What inspires you?

I am inspired by people who do hard things. Something speaks to my soul about picking a challenge, geeking out on the intricacies of achieving the challenge, including training and executing. I love to teach and mentor, and I can't wait to feel competent enough to give back to this community.

WHAT does adventure mean to you?

Adventure, to me, means exploring new places, trying new things, and stepping out of my comfort zone. It's about taking risks and facing challenges to discover more about the world and myself.

Smile or game face? Smile
What's your 11th Essential? The excitement that I get from planning and going on adventures. Oh... and peanut M&Ms.
What's your happy place? Sometimes, my happy place is on a long run speaking to my demons and making peace; sometimes, it is with my family celebrating something awesome; sometimes, it's on the highway with only my dog and me. My happy place is anywhere where warm memories are made.
Post-adventure meal of choice? PIZZA and BEER!
If you could be a rockstar at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? That's a hard question. Not only do I play in nature, but I am also a triathlete and runner. I love all the sports that I participate in for different reasons. This is like asking me which of my children is my favorite. Can't do it. But, I would choose to be a bit more coordinated and have a bit more strength so that I could do all the things I love better.

Mountaineers come in all shapes and sizes, varying widely in age, outdoor experience, and length of time involved in The Mountaineers. Part of what makes our community so unique is the broad diversity of our membership, and we hope these weekly features highlight who we are and why our community plays an important part in feeling belonging in the outdoors. We are always seeking self-nominations for our Mountaineer of the Week, and we invite you to share your story. Trust us, we want to hear from you!
