10 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

Why do you participate in Mountaineers Youth Programs?

Because it suits my interests and allows me good reasons to get outdoors in a group that also enjoys nature as much as I do. It is really fun and even more fun when other people are there to learn with and from.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOUNTAINEERS MEMORY?

I really enjoyed exploring Ellis Cove during camp. We hiked down to the beach and followed a creek down to a nice shady spot. We had to duck under bushes and crawl over branches to get there and my friends and I made bowls and mosaic type art out of clay and other natural materials. It was really fun.

What is your favorite outdoor activity and why?

I like hiking in the woods because it’s a good workout and it’s nice being connected with nature and noticing all of the things around you as you walk. I also enjoy identifying plants and adding to my knowledge and skills.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone who wanted to spend more time outside, what would you say?

Mountaineers Summer Camp is a really good experience! You get to be in nature with friends and explore and have a good time that you will always remember.

What have you learned at The Mountaineers that you have applied to other parts of your life?

How to pet stinging nettle without getting stung and how to eat it raw. I feel like knowing what plants are edible and which ones are not is a really handy thing to know in survival situations.
