On May 16th The Mountaineers will help to inspire diversity in the outdoors with an interactive presentation from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) climbers of Expedition Denali.
In the summer of 2013 a group of inspiring role models made history as the first team of African Americans to blaze a trail up America’s highest peak – Denali. To mark the 100th anniversary of the peak’s first ascent, Expedition Denali set out to literally change the face of the mountain.
Though the summit was a goal, the ultimate objective was not just to make mountaineering history, but to build a legacy by paving a way for young people of color to get outside, get active, get healthy, become passionate about America’s wild places, and chase their own Denali-sized dreams.
Audience favorites for their comfortable and dynamic prose, Expedition Denali climbers Tyrhee Moore and Rosemary Saal will help raise awareness of the expedition and inspire you to discover the great outdoors and reach your own great heights. Join us in a dialogue about diversity in the outdoors. To get tickets and more information visit www.bewild2014.eventbrite.com
BeWild Speaker and Film Series
The Mountaineers invites you to join us this spring when we bring the outdoors in with the BeWild Speaker and Film Series. This series will inspire the everyday adventurer to explore, discover and conserve the wild spaces of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Through stories of passion and adventure we will enable and encourage the community — especially the next generation — to get outside, seek adventure, connect with nature and be inspired to care for the wild places where we play. Join us as we explore the outdoors differently.
