2018 Safety Incidents Through Apr 2

Thirty-five safety incidents have been reported in the first three months of 2018. Here are a few charts which give an overview.

The first 3 months of 2018  have been typical when it comes to the number of safety incidents reported by activity leaders and participants.

2018 - 35 incidents
2017 - 31 incidents
2016 - 31 incidents

Incident - type

In the Major & Significant categories, there were 2 fractures and two lacerations, all requiring medical care.

Most slips reported caused only minor or no injuries.  One slip resulted in a subtle wrist bone fracture.

Incidents this time of year typically occur on snow, in buildings, or on artificial climbing structures.   The number of road incidents is a bit unexpected.  (Crash, stuck  in snow, slip on icy surface, safety concern re: traffic issues)

Half of the climbing incidents were Near Misses or Other.  Only one incident occurred on a climb. Nearly all of the rest were field trip related.

Four of the seven scrambling incidents occurred during a single field trip.
