How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
I had just moved to Seattle after living in California for over a decade. I was looking to make new friends and get outdoors when I saw an ad about The Mountaineers at my company, Microsoft. I was intrigued and looked up the website and found exactly what I was looking for! Being outside with The Mountaineers helped me to transition in the Pacific Northwest tremendously. I climbed Mt. Rainier in July 2014 due to the support of many members of the Everett Alpine Scrambling group.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
The enjoyment I derive by being outside in the nature is very intrinsic reward. It energizes me to face the coming work week with more positivity. And it's a great workout.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
There are so many. But if I can pick three:
- Backpacking at Spider meadow among the wildflowers
- Snow camping at Carne Mountain with the larches
- Backpacking the Olympic coast and watching the sea stacks
Who/What inspires you?
The volunteer leaders who love and appreciate the outdoors and take an active part in maintaining an active lifestyle at any age.
What does adventure mean to you?
Venturing into the unknown and pushing my comfort zone to see what I am capable of and also experience the many natural wonders of earth.
