10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

At my local elementary school, I met a couple of Mountaineers members. One PTA friend had climbed Rainier for her 40th birthday, and I thought that sounded like a great idea! She and my daughter's 4th grade teacher (also a climber) encouraged me to take the Alpine Scramble class to prepare for my goal of Rainier.

What motivates you to get outside with us?

I learned most of my outdoor skills with The Mountaineers and love that I can safely get out with knowledgeable, reliable people. For climbing, I love that we have similar training and standards when we go out.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

I have many favorites to choose from! One favorite was last year when I led a larch-viewing scramble. We did an overnight trip hiking from Mt Carne to Mt Maude, camping at Ice Lakes in between. The scenery and company were marvelous!

Who/What inspires you?

So many patient, skilled, and dedicated volunteers inspire me. This past year I led a Women's Intermediate Mentor group, and was also inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of these new climbers! I love the landscapes and the sense of accomplishment with climbing, but most of all I value the friendships I have built over the years. I work hard to help others be included too.

What does adventure mean to you?

Adventure involves some risk into new terrain. I like my adventures best with friends along!

Lightning Round

Sunrise or sunset? Sunset.
Smile or game face? Smile.
What's your 11th essential? My camera! Love to capture the outdoor fun.
What's your post-adventure meal of choice? I get tired of Mexican, so enjoy good Thai or Indian food which I have found on the way back from a variety of locations.
If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Backcountry skiing! I have the gear but little skill.
