10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

I started volunteering with the Lookout and Trail Maintenance Committee by joining Arthur Wright and Norm Buckley for a painting party up at the Mount Pilchuck Lookout 4 years prior to my joining (almost to the day - 09/23/2011).

What motivates you to get outside with us?

I enjoy working with my LOTM crew and knowing I'm making a difference out there. It's important to take care of these special places.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

Working on the re-roofing project of the Three Fingers Lookout last year. It was just such a phenomenal opportunity and experience all the way around.

Who/What inspires you?

Normal people inspire me - normal people who are compelled to give of themselves and are dedicated to helping others achieve their goals.

Wilderness inspires me - the peace I feel when wrapped in the mysteries of Wilderness compels me to want to protect it fiercely so that all may experience the gifts that await.

What does adventure mean to you?

Going further than I've gone before and not knowing what might wait around the next corner.

Lightning Round

Sunrise or sunset? Sunset.
Smile or game face? Smile.
What's your happy place? Anywhere deep in the backcountry or atop a challenging summit.
Post-adventure meal of choice? Burger & shake.
If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? You mean I'm not?
