10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

After college, I looked into The Mountaineers after learning about it from someone in Search and Rescue. I became involved with the Everett Hiking committee and explored some amazing places. From there, I went on to learn more and more about the club and all that it offers: climbing, kayaking, skiing, etc. I'm still finding new ways to get involved with The Mountaineers as it's more than just a club to me -  it's a way of life and recreating outdoors.

I'm always learning about myself through The Mountaineers. The more trips and more experiences I do, the more I know myself. It's like some kind of Zen workout club with ropes, skis, kayaks, and sharp ice axes!

What motivates you to get outside with us?

I get motivated by sharing my love of the outdoors with others and helping give back. Whether I volunteer as simply a follower on trail, helping a trails day crew, lead a ski trip, or teach a new climber - I get motivated to do more everyday.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

I think it was a simple day of ski touring in the Teanaway. We had hiked up the snow-covered road, found the trail, switched over to skis, and found ourselves atop of a steep and pointy peak (random one) where we stopped for lunch. At that moment, I realized it wasn't a matter of what trip I was on, nor the fact that it was a great sunny day, but it special that I was there in that time and place with awesome company. We laughed about the random spot sitting atop our skis, clicked back in, and skied down to our hiking boots found somewhere in the treeline below. Yup - awesome day for sure - a Mountaineers day in the mountains. Now try finding your hiking boots in the snow!

Who/What inspires you?

I get inspired by photography and being able to capture my feelings and joys of the outdoors through the electronic medium..

What does adventure mean to you?

Adventure comes in different ways - from exploration of a new mountain, sharing in new experiences with others, laughing about getting lost at night, or sharing pics of an epic climb at work the next day. That's what it means by adventure.
