10 Essential Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

I had wanted to join for quite a while, but with work travel I could never commit to taking a class. I also had accrued significant climbing experience so finally found an opportunity to take the basic equivalency test. I then started on the intermediate climbing program.

What motivates you to volunteer with us?

I had wanted to further my learning and every time I get outside with other experienced people I learn something! The Mountaineers provides me with a great group of like  minded outdoor adventurers to get outside with!

Favorite Mountaineers memory?

I had a great climb with Brian Young for my Rock 2 field trip. It was just the two of us and we had a great day out climbing on Midway, Saber, and R&D in Leavenworth. It was my first time doing real multipitch climbing and it was great fun!

Who/What inspires you?

There are so many people that inspire me to get outside. Of course I'm inspired by the professionals like Kilian Jornet or Ueli Steck, but I'm also inspired by friends doing awesome things like Gavin Woody (Badwater Ultramarathon finisher) and other parents of young children who are also introducing them to the outdoors.

What does adventure mean to you?

It means that you did something a bit beyond your comfort zone and that provided you with the opportunity to learn. It also tends to happen when things don't quite work out to plan!
