10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

My introduction to The Mountaineers was through a friend who took several courses and had positive experiences. For several years, I admired her skills and enjoyed hearing about the adventures she went on. I wanted to learn how to climb some of those peaks I like looking at on the horizons too. When the opportunity to work with The Mountaineers came up, I jumped at the chance to work for an organization that connects people to the wonderful place we live.

What motivates you to Get outside with us?

I enjoy working with and meeting people who are excited about getting outside in a variety of ways. I've already learned so much and look forward to that continuing. A welcoming community of people with similar passions is a powerful thing and I'm excited to be a part of it.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

I get to co-instruct a Mountain Workshop for students from the University YMCA every week. Their excitement about climbing is infectious. Seeing them gain skills and go from never having climbed before to belaying their peers is rewarding. I also get to teach with a really rad group of people which is fun.

Who/What inspires you?

I'm inspired by generous people who work to create the world they want, like volunteers and activists. Hearing what passions others have and how they fit those into their lives is awesome. I also always feel particularly motivated after seeing plants growing in what appear to be difficult spots, like between concrete slabs or perpendicularly out of a cliff.

What does adventure mean to you?

Adventure, to me, is synonymous with fun (whether that's type 1, 2, or 3). It can mean heading to a new spot or trying a new skill, but it can also mean going to my favorite hike that I've done 20 times but haven't yet done this week.

Lightning Round
Sunrise or sunset? Sunset

Smile or game face? Smile
What's your 11th essential? Chocolate and someone to share it with who makes incredible playlists for the car ride.
Post-adventure meal of choice? A quality veggie burger and a beer.
If you could be a rockstar at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Can I choose all of them? I know that’s cheating but it’s hard to pick. I’ll go with sailing and then set off on a global adventure.
