10 Essentials: Questions
How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?
I started by taking the snowshoeing course. I had a dream to become an alpine climber, but was pretty intimidated and had some money to save, so I started there.
What motivates you to get outside with us?
The people and their energy. The Mountaineers has brought so many wonderful and like-minded people into my life. I’ve never had so many friends from such a wide variety of backgrounds. It’s pretty amazing.
What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?
When I couldn’t summit Glacier Peak the first time I climbed it because I absolutely gassed out. Our climb leader put my face into his hands and said, “I am so proud of you”. He made me feel successful even though I didn’t summit. Eventually I summited Glacier Peak. I'm seriously thankful for all of the support The Mountaineers has given me in order to reach my goals. This organization truly wants you to succeed, and once again the people in it make it so great!! Thank you.
Who/What inspires you?
Other people who are raising kids and keeping up in the mountains. I’m a single mother of two boys and doing all of this is unbelievably hard, but it brings so much joy to my life. I’m inspired by others who are also dedicated to their families and the mountains.
What does adventure mean to you?
I learn more and more about myself every time I go out. It strengthens me, my self-esteem has grown, and I’m becoming more of a leader. It just helps me to grow and become a better person.
