10 Essential Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

They finally got a new website and I was able to make sense of what they did (I can hear people screaming with rage through the computer as I type this joke!). In actuality, I was looking for nonprofit work that I thought would address a root problem that influences most societal ills: a disconnect from nature. We fight our own biology too often with modern lifestyles and I was privileged enough to be able to walk away from a full-time legal career in order to contribute to The Mountaineers mission, which I strongly agree with.

What motivates you to get outside with us?

The fact that it's very easy to discover and explore places that are NOT within spitting distance of North Bend, where most people I know in Seattle default to when they want to get outside.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

Seeing my son completely energized about showing me the things he learned in summer camp. I see an unbelievable level of pride in his eyes and now I know he will survive if I kick the bucket.

Who/What inspires you?

People willing to think outside the box who do not limit themselves with conventional thinking. Many of the funny cats on the internet are equally impressive. It's a tough call if I had to choose between those two things.

What does adventure mean to you?

Doing whatever will fuel the stories you plan on telling your grandchildren.

Lightning Round
Sunrise or sunset? Sunset.
Smile or game face? Keep people on their toes with both of them.
Superpower? Time travel. It gives you the biggest "bang for the buck" if you're limited to just one super power.
Post-adventure meal of choice? Depends on the adventure. Some days it's lasagna, some days it's a donut.
If you could be a rock star at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be?  What do you mean "if"?
