10 Essentials: Questions

How did you get involved with The Mountaineers?

When I first moved to Washington, most of the people I knew were city dwellers who didn't like to go outdoors that often. So I ended up hiking and backpacking solo or with my dogs. Having always wanted to get into more difficult terrain, I thought it would be better to play it safe and do it as a group.

What motivates you to Get outside with us?

Meeting new people who share similar interests in the outdoors. At the same time, I enjoy finding new scrambles or climbs that push the envelope of what I have done before. There are so many peaks to climb here that it would take a lifetime to make a minor dent in doing them all.

What's your favorite Mountaineers memory?

I have quite a few favorite or enjoyable Mountaineers memories. The one that sticks out in my mind would be my first alpine climb with The Mountaineers, which was a single day push up Whitehorse Mountain. The workout, the moat crossing, and especially the views are all burned into my brain.

Who/What inspires you?

Some of the good friends I have made within The Mountaineers. I am inspired by their collective knowledge, wisdom, and experience of the surrounding Cascade Mountains.

What does adventure mean to you?

Experiencing something completely new for the first time. This includes applying a new skill you have learned, encountering wildlife you normally don't see, or being physically pushed beyond what you thought you are capable of.

Lightning Round
Sunrise or sunset? Sunset

Smile or game face? Smile
What's your 11th essential? Down slippers for the campsite. Perfect for those cold nights.
Post-adventure meal of choice? A couple slices of pizza. Preferably NY style.
If you could be a rockstar at any outdoor activity overnight, what would it be? Climbing rock a few grades higher that what I am currently capable of.
