Trip Report

CHS 1 Hike - Hardy Ridge

Spring hike at the Columbia River Gorge.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail was well marked and maintained along our route. It was particularly rocky with some exposure along the ridge.

We arrived at the trailhead at 8 AM. Parking was readily available. Have your discover pass ready since the parking lot is actively patrolled by the park rangers.

The hike started off with some fog and low lying clouds. By the time we reached the ridge the clouds in the gorge were gone making for an expansive view of the area. We were able to see Table Mountain (pictured), Bonneville Dam, and some waterfalls. We were unable to see Mt. Hood since it was hidden behind clouds.

There were some flowers along the trail such as Bleeding Heart and Indian Paintbrush. It's not quite berry season though it should be a good one with all the huckleberry and salmon berry bushes.

The hike distance and elevation gain made for a good workout. Overall, the hike made for a fun.
