Alpine Scramble - Mount Thompson/East Ridge

Beautiful scramble cruising along the PCT and some scree sidehilling, bushwhacking and solid rock scrambling at the top

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail: The trip is 90% on the PCT, till we split off into the Thomson basin. PCT is well maintained and has lots of spots to step aside for fellow hikers and keeping some distance during the pandemic.

Trail to Notch: Once past the PCT into the Thomson basin, it was some big boulders, scree to get to the Notch on the East Ridge.

Notch to base of Rock scramble: Notch to base of the scramble is mostly on well established climbers trail. From there is was mostly Class 2 (aka T3/T4 scrambling till we get to the final Class 4 move)

Class 4 move has solid hand holds and foot holds. from there  the summit is 20 feet.
