Alpine Scramble - Mount Mastiff

A great rock and snow scramble

  • Road rough but passable
  • The road is a little rough and narrow, but nothing too bad.

We hit on and off snow at the turn to Merritt lake around 4800 feet. There is a nice booth path up the ridge to around 6100 feet. From here you leave the trees and head out onto rock. Stay high and on the NE side of the ridge. Going low under the rocks make things more difficult. We were on rock for about a 0.25 mile, then it switched back to snow for the remaining 0.5 mile to the summit. Good for rock or snow  credit.

9 hours car to car, 9.5 miles and 3600 feet.
