Winter Scramble - Panorama Point

A winter scramble past Panorama Point to McClure Rock and Sugarloaf, around 6 miles total and 2500’ elevation. Hopefully we will get to enjoy a nice and fast glissade down from Panorama Point on the descent.

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 6.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,500 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2 mph depending on snow conditions

The objectives of this trip will be summiting McClure Rock and Sugarloaf, which should be class 2-3 snow scrambles this time of year.

Full winter scramble gear is required, including snowshoes, crampons, ice axe, helmet, along with avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe if you have them. I will also be sending an email a few days before the trip to organize shared group gear (sleeping bag, stove, shelter).

The downhill gate at Longmire closes at 4:30 PM. There should be plenty of time to meet our objectives. We will take this trip at a conversational pace, stopping every hour for about 5 minutes, longer on the summits if the weather is nice.

If you’re interested in joining as an assistant leader please email me a bit about your recent experience and why you’re interested in helping out.

Meet at Longmire near bathrooms at 8:30 AM. We will do our intros, organize gear, and talk about the day there, before the gate to Paradise opens at 9.
