Urban Walk - Seattle Olmsted 50

Test walk new Section 8 of the Seattle Olmsted 70 to help us complete the 75 mile loop around Seattle. This urban walk goes from Myrtle Reservoir Park (High Point) to Alki Point and participants are invited to help edit the directions.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 40 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 520 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.5 MPH

Myrtle Reservoir Park (35th Ave SW & SW Myrtle St, Seattle, WA 98126) at 9:30am gear on and ready to go.

This is a ONE-WAY Traverse walk.  Please plan on carpooling from the endpoint back to the start or busing back to the beginning.  The bus journey from Alki to Myrtle Reservoir is almost an hour long, so let's plan on carpooling.

Seattle Olmsted 70 (June 2024) walks complete the Seattle Olmsted 50 (October 2023) circuit to make a 120 km loop around Seattle parks and parkways.
Section 8 takes us from Myrtle Reservoir Park (The highest point in the city of Seattle at 520') to Alki Point.
We start by walking south along 35th Ave SW before turning west (right) onto SW Barton St.  We'll make our way through Fauntleroy Park and past Endolyne Joe's on our way to Lincoln Park.
We'll then follow the shoreline of Lincoln Park past the troll Bruun Idun (my personal favorite Puget Sound troll!) until we exit the park onto Beach Drive SW.  We then follow the coast of West Seattle until we reach Alki Point.
June walks test the accuracy and utility of the seven new Turn by Turn directions before posting the public routes on the Mountaineers website in July.

The seven new sections replicate the format--about 6 miles, 500 to 900 feet elevation gain and rich in natural and cultural features.
